So much more than a yoga class: you receive a brief introduction to yoga philosophy, carefully designed handouts to match our in-depth yoga practice, video tutorials for your at home practice to absorb the lesson of the week, reading recommendations, and the opportunity for a WhatsApp group to stay connected throughout the 4 weeks of learning.

Curriculum: 

Day 1

We start from the very beginning with a brief introduction to the benefits of a yoga practice, explore the practice space and the use of props, synchronizing breath to movement, comfortable seated positions, and the poses of a sun salutation.

  • Benefits of Yoga: a brief introduction to the history and philosophy of yoga 

  • Inside the Practice Space: setting up your mat and selecting props

  • Breath Integration: synchronize your breath to movement through a common yoga warm up

  • Sun Salutations: common cues and the basics of alignment through the poses of a sun salutation

  • Closing: ending a yoga class, group discussion of Day 1 experience, homework review 

Day 2

Next we go through the basics of ‘flow’, building on Day 1 sun salutations and connecting breath to movements. Today we look in depth at the most common standing and seated poses, combining them at the end of class into a gentle flow sequence. We reflect on one aspect from yoga philosophy to set an overall theme for the class.

  • Essential Standing Poses

  • Essential Standing Balance Pose

  • Seated Twists and Hip Openers

  • A complete yoga practice: pulling it all together for a gentle flow

  • Closing: ending a yoga class, group discussion of Day 2 experience, homework review 

Day 3

Then we learn some breathing techniques and how you can use them to energize or to relax. We look in depth at more common standing and seated poses, combining them at the end of class into a gentle flow sequence. We reflect on one aspect from Yoga philosophy to set an overall theme for the class.

  • Breathwork: a closer look at the diaphragm and how to use the breath to calm your nervous system

  • Breath Integration: synchronize your breath to movement through a common yoga warm up

  • Seated Twists and Hip Openers

  • A complete yoga practice: pulling it all together for a gentle flow

  • Closing: ending a yoga class, group discussion of Day 3 experience, homework review

Day 4

On this final day, we’ll pull everything together for a gentle flow yoga class followed by a special course closing
